Acceptable use policy

Privacy is not a licence to harm other people. These rules keep the network usable for everyone on it.

This is placeholder wording drafted for the website build. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and must be replaced with final legal language before launch. Last revised: draft, pending legal review.

01Intended use

UmbraVPN exists so ordinary internet use — browsing, streaming, working, travelling — stays private on networks you do not control.

02Prohibited activity

Unlawful activity under the law that applies to you or to the location you connect through.

Attacks on other systems: scanning, denial of service, intrusion attempts, credential stuffing, or malware distribution.

Bulk unsolicited messaging, or any activity that gets our address ranges blocklisted.

Child sexual abuse material, and content or conduct that exploits or endangers minors.

Harassment, threats, or attempts to identify or dox other people.

03Fair use of the network

There is no artificial speed throttle, but activity that degrades service for other users, or exceeds the device limit on your plan, may be restricted.

04Reports and enforcement

Abuse reports are reviewed against the data we actually hold. Because we do not keep browsing records, enforcement is limited to account-level action such as warning, restriction, suspension or closure.

05Reporting abuse

Send abuse reports to our support address with timestamps in UTC and enough detail for us to act.
